Lauren Cole

Consultant

Lauren Cole is a research consultant at Shared Planet, where she supports the Digital Resilience, Climate Policy & Governance, and Humanitarian Practices. She specialises in data ethics, data privacy, and AI and data governance. Her client work includes AI policy, online platform safety, and digital governance and operational strategising for Mars Inc. and research assistance for the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), Oxfam Jordan, Oxfam MENA, the Norwegian Refugee Council, and more.

Lauren brings diverse experience across the fields of law, culture, and research, having completed internships at Canvas Art Law and Constantine Cannon LLP. Her multidisciplinary background has cultivated a deep understanding of legal frameworks in relation to data privacy and cultural heritage law, cultural initiatives, and advanced research methodologies. This diverse expertise enables her to navigate complex projects with a strategic and analytical mindset, and she excels in conducting in-depth research and analysis, producing comprehensive reports, and leading stakeholder engagement and global mapping initiatives.

She holds an MSc in International Relations from the University of Edinburgh, graduating with Distinction for her dissertation, ‘Data is Power: Experian’s Role in Reproducing Foucauldian Power-Knowledge in the Digital Era.’ Her research critically examined how data-mining practices in digital technology normalise predictive insights into human behaviour, reinforcing societal inequalities. She also earned a First-Class Honours BA in History from the University of Edinburgh, including a study year at the University of California, Berkeley. She is fluent in both French and English.
