
Sylvia Ascher
Consultant
Sylvia Ascher is a research consultant at Shared Planet, with a focus on conservation, environmental resource management, climate change, and nature-based solutions. With a strong foundation in systems thinking, she views conservation as an integrated process, recognizing the connections between ecosystems and broader environmental, social, and economic systems. She aims develop strategies that promote both ecological health and socioeconomic resilience by considering the connections between the natural world, human communities, and policy frameworks. She focuses on addressing the root causes of environmental degradation while ensuring long-term sustainability and inclusive benefits for all stakeholders.

She holds a Master of Science in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London, where she concentrated on environmental resource management. Sylvia also earned a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Erasmus University College in Rotterdam. Before joining Shared Planet, she worked as a research assistant at Imperial College, investigating the ecological impacts of tidal energy and its potential to protect coastal ecosystems and communities from rising sea levels and storm surges. Prior to that, she contributed to a conservation initiative in British Columbia, Canada, where she conducted research involving eDNA sampling and fieldwork aimed at safeguarding at-risk species and preventing old-growth deforestation. From this research, she co-authored a report used by the local Government to inform conservation and management plans.
